Talking Turkey

November 20, 2018

For most, the kitchen is the heart of the home, especially during the holidays. From testing family recipes to decorating cakes and cookies, everyone enjoys being part of the preparations.

Turkey safety— the turkey is the biggest star of your thanksgiving feast. Make sure your defrost your turkey properly and cook immediately after thawing. If you need help cooking the perfect turkey, call the ladies at Butterball (800-288-8372)! They're the experts on all things turkey! Thanksgiving is a social dinner; while talking, joking, and laughing, choking is a very dangerous possibility. Call 911 if the person can’t cough, breathe, or speak. Use turkey fryers outdoors. Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas Day, Christmas Eve, and the day before Thanksgiving. Never leave a stove or cooktop unattended. Watch out for the kids and pets, too!

If you are traveling for the big feast, plan ahead. Travel in the off-peak times to avoid delays. The best times to travel? Between Tuesday and Wednesday -- before 6 a.m. and after 11 p.m and Thursday through Sunday -- before 9 a.m. and after 9 p.m. Buckle up and always drive sober.

Make sure you get plenty of rest, eat well, and enjoy your family and friends. That's what thanksgiving is about, after all. Enjoy!
